KENT WEST DYSLEXIA ASSOCIATION

About us...

KWDA was founded in Sevenoaks in 1982 as an information and phone helpline service for the community of the Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells area.  We are a voluntary organisation affiliated to the British Dyslexia Association and funded by our membership, made up of schools and other organisations; adult dyslexics and parents of dyslexic children.

What we do …

v                  Information is offered free via our Helplines to members and non-members alike.

v                  We hold regular meetings and workshops with specialist speakers on relevant topics, such as “New Phonic approach to Spelling & Reading”, “Technology for Dyslexia” and “Maths, Dyslexia & Dyscalculia”.  All are welcome to attend and our open meetings are free to members with a small charge for non-members.

v                  We keep our members up to date with a KWDA newsletter and a British Dyslexia Association magazine three times a year.

v                  We run a free Saturday children’s fun club and family fun days for dyslexic and dyspraxic children who have lost self-esteem.

v                  During the 2008 Dyslexia Awareness Week in November we held a successful free Dyslexia Information Evening at Sevenoaks Library.

v                  We have a close association with Sevenoaks Library and are looking to develop other such affiliations.

v                  We are involved with the free family dyslexia after-school club - the XPs - run in local schools.

v                  We endeavour to reach as many people as possible to raise awareness to the difficulties and strengths associated with dyslexia, and to advertise our events.
