  • 26 June Open Meeting - ‘Maths – Does it all add up?’ - Margaret Cooper will be looking at the nature of mathematics and the sort of difficulties which can be encountered by dyslexic people. She will also give some practical strategies. The talk will also touch upon the difference between being dyslexic with maths and being dyscalculic.
  • Thursday 26 April – Drop in session at Sevenoaks Library. Claudia Goodman, an experienced special needs teacher, will be hosting flexible drop-in sessions for children having difficulties to do with dyslexia, literacy or related problems. The support will be individualised according to the needs of the child and practical strategies will be suggested to help at home or in school. See forthcoming events section for more details. Pre-booking a time slot is a must as these have proved popular.
  • Epetition - The B.D.A. has launched a petition requesting that sufficient dyslexia training be provided as part of Initial Teacher Training. They need 100,000 signatures to trigger a debate in Parliament, so they need to pull out all the stops on this one. If you agree with the petition would you please sign it, and even more importantly, join with us by passing on this request and link to everyone you know or meet who might be willing to do the same.   • K College are running a OCR Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties.Places are still available. Contact details on the attached flyer.
  • Our new FORUM. On the menu above you will see a tab that will take you to our new forum. Please sign up to it and participate. We would like it to be a much used resource for all our members and other visitors. Ask questions. Share stories. Help us make it useful and relevant.

We enjoyed an informative and interesting evening with Nancy Doyle on ‘Magical Spelling’ at the last Open meeting. Many of you expressed an interest in hearing more from Nancy.
